Younger children should read good books, learn a basic logic curriculum, begin volunteer work/community service, look at future colleges, and prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT (to take for practice) in eighth grade. They should also have had Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry and some basic trig. before entering eleventh grade.
